Now that’s out-of-the-way, lets move on to Blog Branding and Why you Should Do it. As a blogger, regardless of whether your blog’s focused on your business, solopreneur, media entity or personal subject, take the time to think through your brand and its implications for your content going forward.
Blog Branding is the most important feature that often, many bloggers miss out on. Apart from good content and optimization, making a Brand out of a blog can boost your traffic exponentially, and you have better chance of becoming an authority blog. First of all, we should keep in mind that this is a never-ending process and it goes without saying, patience is the main fuel in this perpetual trying. However, there is more to add to the perfect recipe: Grab a note-book and a pen, Lets do this!
10 Tips for Blog Branding and Why you Should Do it
1. Mark your territory:
Blog branding is giving a voice, identity and personality to your blog. So it only makes sense if your blog could be identified on a particular field. I talked about this on episode one: How To Start a Blog: 8 Easy Steps and I quote, “There are about 10 popular types of blogs out there. Try to identify with one, here are some just to mention. The Rogue, The guest host, the crush dummy, the niche, the giver, guide blogs, the homer, tell-all blog, the personal brand and enterprise Blog. Am not saying you should put all your ideas in the box however remember, “Jack of all trades is a master of none.”
To be a real authority, a blog should establish a clear field and a patent of posting. A mixture of subjects and forms of posting isn’t a sign of professionalism so it’s hard to become a brand in such context. If you manage to gain a certain form of audience, they would expect the same kind of content or something related. So if you do fashion today, then a cooking post tomorrow, marketing forum on the next and so on and so forth, you will eventually affect your blog branding.
2. High Quality Contents and Consistency:
I can’t emphasis this enough. By any chance, if you follow all the other tips and slack at this two key points. It wouldn’t work. But consistency can only take you too far, If you happen to post mediocre contents. You have to give your readers a reason to read your blog and form loyal readership. And this two, High Quality Contents and Consistency are inseparable. Without them your blog branding is as good as dead. You need to be super consistent and accountable with scheduling high quality posts and contents overall. I know this won’t be the easiest thing in the world and you might get disappointed along the way, when you give your all to your blog and the reward isn’t as satisfactory. But trust me the efforts goes a long way. PS: This is why you need a passion for blogging above everything else.
3. Be Distinctive and Original:
Blog Branding needs to be distinctive – it is much more than a simple requirement, it is an imperative of survival. Think of this: we can find tons of T-shirts at the mall and many of them look pretty similar, but there is almost no buyer who doesn’t recognize the swoosh of Nike and buys such T-shirts. A lot of people prefer buying high quality products and the little logo of Nike is the guarantee of it; in this case the swoosh makes the big difference and the huge company is truly a brand. The same process should be done with the blog; people should be aware that when they see your logo or hear your address, it should be something interesting, deserving a click.
4. Choosing Domain name:
Just like individuals, Each brand is unique. Therefore Blog Branding starts with choosing the right Domain of your blog/Website. The URL should be catchy and it should also tell what your blog is about. Your blog is a reflection of you therefore your domain should set the tone for your blog and has search implications. More over if you use words like MissKymmiee Creatives, Google, Amazon and so forth. Make sure you brand it properly. Let the people remember your name. Short is always sweet and better, but if it’s big, make sure it rhymes in some way that people are bound to remember the name.
5. Blog Design
Your blog design is an important aspect of branding. Make sure you get a custom or any good-looking premium template for your blog. Blog designs can be quite expensive, but you need to invest in your business for it to grow and flourish. Right? There are many great themes out there. This is imperative, because we are human and Visual Impressions last forever. Make an effort on your Blog design, it should be catchy, reflect your personality and serve as blog branding at the same time. I recently updated my Blog design, and with that my blog has got a quick boost of following and increase on unique visitors. I was using A $59 Premium theme by Pipdig called FireFly on my previous design for about 1 year. And now I have a Professionally Costumed Theme by SheShoppesCo and I think it was the IT Blog branding Design I needed.
6. Catchy Header and Tagline:
The header of your blog should be able to catch the attention of your readers. A Catchy header is memorable, moreover there is an increased chance of someone visiting your blog for first time and becoming a regular reader or at least bookmarking your blog. It also helps in making your blog stand out of other blogs and that right there is blog branding. A tagline adds insight into your blog’s personality and content that is integral to your brand. Consider your blog’s focus and keywords. For example, this blog uses “A Style for Every Story” to define the type of information presented and to be expected.
7. Blog Profile and ID
Blog profile is also known as Blog Gravatar. It also plays on the same lines of visual contents. This comes in handy to creating your blog’s brand in the subconscious minds of your readers and strangers alike. In order to do this. You need to have a consistent blog profile or gravatar across all your brands and social media alike. If you opt to use a Logo, then the same should be expected across all other platforms. If you are using a profile picture then the same case apply. In that case, A person could stumble on your blog merely through a comment you did on another blog or tweet done by your readers.
Blog ID refers to the blog username. Make sure your brand name is the same across all fields. That way, if someone googled your name up. Your name shows up the same in all fields. I use MissKymmiee on all my platforms, Because MissKymmiee is the actual Brand and am the person behind it. Your brand will collapse quickly if you try to be the brand rather than letting your business be the brand. Hope this point strikes home.
8. Blog Voice
Every great chef and foodie has a special ingredient or secret sauce they hold close to the cuff, which makes their dishes irreplaceable, Oh, Hey! Olivia. When it comes to blog branding, your secret ingredient is your voice. No two people use the same verbiage, speak in the same tone, or come with the same approach. Your voice is the most unique factor in your blog branding recipe, so take great care to perfect this secret sauce. Don’t underestimate the power of your voice. Without it your recipe will very likely end up looking and tasting like everything else out there. It’s this ingredient, your voice, that should ultimately dictate the other subsequent ingredients in your recipe. It’s truly the secret to your success.
Work to find your voice and THEN build your recipe around that. That way your readers can relate and resonate with you at a deeper level. I personally prefer the conversation tone kinda writing. As I write, I always imagine having a conversation with a close friend and as a result am able to be myself, friendly and inject my humor and personality. Which in turn results to longer posts, because i can be very chatty.
9. Color Palette
Colors don’t just define the look of your brand; they also convey the feeling you want to communicate and help you make it consistent across your entire brand. The unique color combination you choose will help you visual delight visitors and make your brand identity recipe your own. This ideographic offers a nice overview of the emotions and associations that different colors generally evoke.
There are 5-6 colors you need for Blog Branding
➽ONE Dominant color (Primary color associated with your brand)
➽ONE Primary Action Color (for calls to action, links and buttons)
➽ONE Light Color (for fonts and backgrounds)
➽ONE Dark Color (for fonts and backgrounds)
➽ONE to TWO Accent Colors (to use in your images and on your website to interrupt your basic color scheme when you want to accentuate or highlight something special)
Once you define your blog branding color palette you want to consistently pepper your blog with each color in the elements the color was defined for. Consistency is the key to spicing up your brand identity with color, so keep your recipe potent by always using your brand color palette, no exceptions.
10. Help Others
